ABOUT
Art Tours, Etc. was started with the idea of bringing English-speaking people together in interesting and creative settings. I offer unique art and cultural experiences in and around Zurich that bring you closer to the local community and to other like-minded individuals. The art tours and events that I organize are great opportunities for people with shared interests to meet, get to know each other, and create lasting connections. Public events are scheduled regularly. I also create tailored events for corporate and private clients in French and Romanian. Group rates available.
UPCOMING EVENTS
Kunstkino Abend is a series of art films and documentary screenings which offers the possibility for further exploration of art movements, trends, and the creative act. This week’s Kunstkino Abend presents the first two of Simon Schama’s documentaries from his series, The Power of Art: Caravaggio and Bernini. Simon Schama is a British historian and art historian teaching at Columbia University. His series The Power of Art explores “the power of the greatest art, [which] is the power to shake us into revelation and rip us from our default mode of seeing. After an encounter with that force, we don’t look at a face, a colour, a sky, a body, in quite the same way again. We get fitted with new sight: in-sight. Visions of beauty or a rush of intense pleasure are part of that process, but so too may be shock, pain, desire, pity, even revulsion. That kind of art seems to have rewired our senses. We apprehend the world differently.”
After each documentary, which lasts about 40 minutes, there will be a discussion about the artist, the role that art played in society at that time, and how things have changed.
Kunstkino is organized and moderated by Olga Stefan.
Thursday, January 12, 2012, 7pm at Artfoyer
The Art Circle is a platform where the public and artists meet, get to know one another and discuss themes in art in a fun and relaxed setting.
Join us for the first session, “Hybrid Identities”, featuring artists Teresa Chen, Navid Tschopp, and Cat Tuong Nguyen and moderated by Olga Stefan.
Who are we really? How do we identify ourselves and does that identity reflect a reality or a personal preference? Most of us have lived in multiple places and have adapted to new locales. How does this experience affect the way we see ourselves or identify ourselves? Is identity fixed and stable or fluid and ever-changing? Can we ourselves alter our identity or do we inherit it?
Join us for an engaging presentation and discussion on:

“Is It Art?”
These are bi-monthly gallery events, during which we will focus on a different seminal piece of work in the art history canon that was scandalous at the time it was exhibited, and was either dismissed as not art or shocked viewers, thereby expanding the boundaries of what we understand as art.
Join us for some wine, appetizers, and fun discussions as we look at artwork by such artists as Manet, the Dadaists, Marcel Duchamp, Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, and many more who contributed to greatly confusing us with what it is that we are really looking at, and forcing us to ask ourselves, Is It Art?
These events will take place in parallel to exhibitions in the galleries, which we will also discuss in the context of the development of contemporary art.
When: Starting February 2, every two weeks, Wednesday evening at 6:30-7:30pm
Where: Bob Gysin Gallery and others, to be announced
Cost: 20chf per person includes event and apero (drinks and appetizers)
Exact agenda will be posted soon. If you enroll in the entire series, one event is gratis. Pre-payment necessary for all events. 5 participants minimum.
